Completing a four-year Bachelor of Education degree as a mature student, Jennifer Wright enjoyed a career as a school teacher and is semi-retired. She now finds herself able to focus on two of her passions: gardening and art. The opportunity to illustrate a children’s book led to the artist taking up her brushes and renewing a love for watercolour painting. Born in Hobart and raised in the Huon Valley, Jennifer and her husband reside in picturesque Glen Huon.
What was your inspiration while illustrating?
My inspiration came from the animals in the story and the response I felt to their plight. I love the colours, shades and variety that Tasmanian species are blessed with.
Why did you choose watercolour?
Watercolours were chosen as a medium because of the surprising effects that occur as the paint is applied to paper.
Which of the animals is your favourite?
I don’t really have a favourite animal, but if i had to I’d choose the skink, snail and quoll. It’s given me a great deal of pleasure bringing them all to life.
